Get Your Google Place Listing NOW!

In the last few weeks Google has made several huge changes to their algorithm that puts a huge amount of weight on returning local results even if you don’t type a local modifier.

Say for example “Dallas Salsa Lesson” is typed by a searcher, then Google would return local results. But now it will also return local results even if it you just type in “Salsa Lessons”

Google is able to do this one of two ways: either your logged into your Google account or it picks up your IP address.

Now this is pretty big because it should give some added page views for your business that may have not been there before unless the searcher typed in the city.

Additionally and much more importantly Google is giving a huge amount of real estate on the first page to Google Places results. Whereas before it would just give you the Maps at the top with 3-7 Places… now they are delivering mixed in with the organic search results.

Given the fact that studies have shown that 1 out of every 3 searches is a local search than you can understand this move by Google.

Depending on the search term I have seen pages where 7 out of the top ten results were Google Place listings.

So if you haven’t claimed your Places listing… stop reading this and do it now.

There are a lot of things Google is testing but it has become extremely obvious that the Places listings will play a large part in their local search results.

Oh and be aware that your competitors could possibly claim the listing Google created for you. I have heard of cases where some companies are being sued for doing this very thing.
