Facebook Explores Changes to News Feed

Facebook Advertising in the news feed

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Facebook is planning to roll out a feature that would benefit advertisers, but seriously anger a lot of users. And by anger I mean infuriate them!

The report says that they will begin to display ads in the news feed, right there in your line f site as you are rolling through all of your friends’ status messages.

In addition, they reportedly plan on removing the ability to remove advertisers.

This should make for a very interesting battle between users and Facebook. There is typically a big uproar when something new like this gets pushed out, and eventually the users adapt or facebook alters their strategy. They are notorious for pushing the edge.

But will this push users over the edge? How many of them will finally leave facebook? On one of the sites where I read about this several people were encouraging people to leave and offering Google Plus invitations.

My caution is this to anyone using any service for free online… eventually these companies will look to monetize their service and your data. It’s simple business. If you don’t want your data being mined for advertisers simply stay offline, if that is even possible anymore.

Let’s see how this little (HUGE) experiment pans out.
